The Challenge

A global luxury brand was experiencing unprecedented levels of inventory losses and employee safety concerns in the U.S. and Mexico. The organization had expanded steadily in both countries with support from its corporate headquarters in Europe, but formal processes to support the retail functions lagged behind the store count growth.

While several members of management shared some Loss Prevention (LP) responsibilities, there was no established Asset Protection (AP) program or experienced AP personnel on staff. With no expert AP leadership in place, the organization struggled to identify the root causes of its financial misses, as well as ways to mitigate safety risks.

For help resolving these issues, the brand’s Chief Financial Officer contacted industry peers for vendor recommendations. Several contacts mentioned AMZ Risk, making it the obvious choice for the job.

The AMZ Risk Solution

The brand contracted AMZ Risk to perform an Asset Protection Program Assessment and a Risk Assessment. AMZ Risk’s consultants visited a representative sample of the brand’s different store types and distribution centers across all major markets in the U.S. and Mexico.

The primary concerns identified during the assessments were in the areas of operational controls, team safety and inventory control. Training and awareness were the underlying causes of all shortcomings found during the assessments.

After several working sessions with the brand’s senior leadership team, both parties agreed that AMZ Risk would develop the organization’s Asset Protection program. This program development included staffing the Director of Asset Protection role and an Inventory Control Analyst.

The Results

The Director of Asset Protection, staffed by AMZ Risk, had over 15 years of AP leadership experience and built a similar program at his previous company. Since staffing and implementing the new AP program with the support of all key stakeholders, the brand has identified and resolved multiple internal theft cases. In addition, the AP and human resources teams are working together to develop long-term training and awareness initiatives. With a strong team in place, the retailer is resolving its inventory concerns and the safety problems that initially prompted them to contact AMZ Risk.
